SFRS EVENT: Single Building Assessment (SBA) - 7th September 2026


The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) are hosting a stakeholder seminar focused on the Single Building Assessment (SBA) process, which will take place on:


Monday, 7th September from 09:30-16:00

Location: Auditorium - SFRS Headquarters, Westburn Drive, Cambuslang, G72 7NA


The seminar has been organised by SFRS to bring together those involved in the assessment, remediation and management of buildings affected by fire safety concerns. The aim is to improve communication, strengthen relationships between stakeholders and provide an opportunity to share experiences, challenges and good practice from across the sector.


SFRS are currently finalising the agenda, which will include contributions from a variety of organisations involved in the process, as well as opportunities for discussion and networking throughout the day.

The success of the SBA process relies heavily on collaboration between all those involved, and I believe this event will provide a valuable opportunity to share perspectives, discuss common challenges and strengthen working relationships across the sector.

ASFP EVENT: Scotland Seminar - 8th September 2026


This event hosted by the Association of Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Glasgow on Tuesday, 8 September 2026, with further details below.

IES EVENT: James Watt Dinner 2026 - 2nd October 2026


This year’s James Watt Dinner (organised by the Institution of Engineers in Scotland IES) will be held on


Friday 2nd Oct 2026 at 7pm in the Radisson Hotel, Glasgow


The James Watt Dinner was started in Glasgow in 1882 and enjoys a reputation of being a great evening, friendly and professional, welcoming to all, and, celebrates all types of engineering.

 

The ticket price includes a welcome drink on arrival, a three course meal, plus coffee a dram to toast James Watt, musicians from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, plus the announcement of this year’s Scottish Engineering Hall of Fame inductees!

 

It is a black tie/ black tie optional event.

 

Tables are based around 10 guests but we can accommodate up to 12. IES can also accommodate individuals and small groups – all are welcome!

PAST IFE EVENT: Single Building Assessment (SBA) Online Workshop - 2nd July 2026

The Single Building Assessment (SBA) was introduced by the Scottish Government through the Housing (Cladding Remediation) (Scotland) Act 2024 in response to cladding safety following the Grenfell Tower fire. It establishes a consistent, whole-building approach to assess risks to human life arising from external wall systems, including cladding, and to identify any remediation required. The SBA forms a central part of Scotland’s cladding remediation programme, aiming to improve resident safety.

 

For members of RICS, CIOB and IFE, this online workshop, hosted by the Scottish Government Building and Safety Standards Directorate, will provide an overview of the SBA framework, including its purpose, scope, and assessment methodology. Attendees will gain insight into the standards that govern them, and their role in supporting risk-based decision-making and remediation strategies.

 This session will provide an overview of the SBA approach, with an opportunity for attendees to ask questions and engage in discussion with the delivery team.
